Leeds civic architect John Thorp MBE will be launching the European Vision for Leeds and the city's unique approach to place making and urban renaissance. John is well known for his work with CABE and as a member of the 2012 Olympic Games design review panel. An exciting programme of events will highlight the renaissance of the city as one of the UK's leading urban centres. John's work features greatly in the creative and branding being used by Leeds this year.

The £1 billion West End Leeds development will be launched on the Location Leeds stand (stand number 14.16, main exhibition hall) at 11.00am on Wednesday. This massive development will create one of the largest new urban quarters in Europe.
There are currently projects worth £2.2 billion under construction and another £5.1 billion worth of schemes proposed – activity that is generally considered to be one of the largest development and investment programmes in the UK.
Covering an area of over 1000 hectares, the Aire Valley contains over a third of all development land available for industrial use in West Yorkshire and is of major strategic importance in terms of delivering the growth objectives of the government's Northern Way strategy. The area is expected to create up to 30,000 new jobs for Leeds and the surrounding city region. Completion of the East Leeds Link Road later this year will open up 250 hectares of development land.
